Brand New Work
The Farm Paintings

In my recent paintings I have put land into my landscapes, literally.

I paint with dirt from my family’s farm along the Chemung River in Elmira, NY. I mix dirt and acylic polymer emulsion into a thick gritty paint. I paint with a stick. I like the visceral connection to the land, with a thick texture and transparency that gives the work a rugged elegance.

From a distance patterns occur and suggest trees and fields, but come in closer to experience the paintings “true grit.”
