We (Diane Janowski and Allen Smith) live in one of the more impoverished neighborhoods in Elmira, New York - the "Slabtown" neighborhood on the Eastside. Although we love the home we live in, extreme poverty and depression is all around us.

In our neighborhood average people do not see or experience art or the beauty around them. Life is hard here and our neighbors do what they need to do to survive in the world.

This project will give our Slabtown neighbors - the opportunity to experience art in their own environment in their own way.

Our "Slabtown Project" will include 250 photographic images, or prints of original artwork posted in 250 spaces in this neighborhood.

The images/artwork is printed on "Dissolvo" a biodegradable, environment-friendly paper, and attached to its host in a environmentally-friendly manner so that if/when it becomes unattached - it will not become trash.

Some records of the images/artwork in the environment in which it was placed will shown on this website. The weather hasn't been too good lately so we have hesitated putting the images outside yet
